Myanmar navy seizes boat with 727 migrants government says, but critics say the haul has little to do with smuggling

Authorities detained three people suspected of being members of Myanmar military, state news agency AINA said on Friday, adding that several of the suspects had been transferred to police custody.

Two others were detained in the coastal town of Kachin state, while a third was arrested from Maungdaw city in Htayap.

The arrest came as the navy seized a boat with 727 migrants on Thursday, AINA said in a statement, adding that some had been smuggled to neighboring Vietnam after having crossed from Myanmar into Laos, Myanma바카라사이트r, Vietnam, Thailand and China.

Most of those rescued are adults aged between 15 and 30 and had been living on boats around the coast of the Yangon archipelago for weeks, the agency said.

Three of those arrested, from Sitt우리카지노we, Kachin state, a state bordering Myanmar, were suspected of “unlawful navigation,” AINA said, as well as smuggling and illegal possession of weapons.

The boat carrying the migrants was discovered on Thursday morning by local resi더킹카지노dents and the National Police, who detained two people on Saturday morning, officials said.

They did not specify the details of how the men were detained, but AINA said that their names would be kept confidential until an official announcement was made.
